THE FETH COURSE  (page 4 of 4)

Students in the third year follow an individual programme, which is designed to continue developing the  essential skills of the first two years whilst preparing them more specifically for the transition to their next placement.

CURRICULUM OUTLINE YEAR THREE

This is based on the same four curriculum areas:

1.    Riding and Horsecare including flatwork, lunge sessions, jumping, hacking, roadwork, vaulting, lungeing horses, preparing horses for Weekly Riding Therapy sessions, stable management and relevant work experience placements.

 

2.    Personal Development and Self-Care including everyday personal hygiene routines, sex education, health

awareness, accessing local services in the community, menu planning for healthy eating, and how to get help if

necessary.

 

3.    Independent Living Skills including food shopping and preparation, cooking, essential household and domestic tasks and routines, laundry, use of local services, using available public transport, personal shopping, household shopping, leisure activities and hobbies.

 

4.    Basic Skills including personal money management, household budgeting, time awareness, communication

 (speaking and listening), every day literacy (or coping strategies) and everyday numeracy (or coping strategies).

Where relevant students can achieve accreditation through the following awards:

  •     National Vocational Qualifications in Horsecare (Levels One and Two)
  •     British Horse Society Stage Examinations
  •     British Horse Society Riding and Road Safety Test
  •     British Food Hygiene Certificate
  •     Mencap Essential Skills Award
  •     City and Guilds Wordwise
  •     City and Guilds Numberwise

Students can also achieve FCRT internal awards.
